C&P FLEET SERVICES CASE STUDY

Keeping Its Fleet Customer on the Road

CHALLENGE: Fleet Downtime = Losses

A leading national energy construction company with a reputation for excellence in reliability, performance and customer satisfaction was struggling with its ability to literally get its construction crews to the job. While performing their primary construction duties at the same high level they had for more than 50 years, their work vehicles were often out-of-service due to minor but important Department of Transportation-cited (DOT) infractions that were identified when the crews were on the way to their worksites.

Increasingly, work crews were standing idle on the side of the road while their work vehicles were repaired. They were relying on ad hoc repairs by outside small repair shops and their own staff to maintain their vehicles, which is not their core capability. Recognizing that it was costing money due to crew idle-time and damaging their reputation, the company came to C&P Fleet Services to see if they could provide routine preventative maintenance and on-going repairs for their $30-million fleet of service vehicles.

C&P EXPERTISE: Diagnose and Deliver

With a staff of 13 and two locations totaling more than 10,000 square-feet of service space in Northern Virginia, C&P was well positioned to respond to the company’s needs. C&P’s technical staff has decades of fleet vehicle repair and maintenance experience and numerous ASE certifications that ensures work will be performed on the same OEM level as vehicle manufacturers’ own repair facilities.

SOLUTION: Prevent and Protect

C&P came up with a plan that the construction company found to be perfect for their needs and have been relying on C&P since 2012 as its fleet vehicle maintenance partner. C&P management proposed they would dispatch their service technicians before the workday started to the construction company’s four locations in Northern Virginia and Southern Maryland to inspect its service vehicles for possible DOT infractions and make the repairs before the vehicles left the shop. In addition, C&P would perform regularly scheduled service maintenance as a proactive step to avoid costly breakdowns. The C&P service technicians would also help fill out the Driver’s Vehicle Inspection Report (DVIR) at the beginning and end of the day as required by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations for commercial drivers.

RESULTS: Highly Productive Fleet

Seven years of working together clearly demonstrates the construction company has found that its reduction in down-time for its service crews is more than worth the cost for the service it receives from C&P, and its reputation for excellence in reliability, performance and customer satisfaction remains intact.
